Due To Poverty, There Are Many Poor Families In Our Country Whose Daughters Go Through Many Problems Due To The Poor Financial Condition Of Those Families, The India Government Has Taken A Number Of Steps To Alleviate The Difficulties Of Big Duty Like Marriage Due To Poverty. Several Projects Have Been Implemented In the Many Others States Of The Country For The Marriage Of Daughters. Similarly, The Tamilnadu State Government Has Planned To Provide Financial Assistance For The Marriage Of Girls From Poor Families.

In most communities, wearing a “thirumangalium” made of gold for a girl at the time of marriage is a traditional cultural necessity and parents celebrate the wedding ceremony according to their customs and cultural background. However, parents of economically weaker sections are not able to cope with the burden of marriage expenses of their daughters. In order to help such parents and encourage them to educate their daughters up to the right age, the marriage support scheme was launched by the Tamil Nadu government. Under this scheme, five more marriage support schemes are implemented to help the daughters of poor parents, orphan girls, widows who remarry, widows’ daughters, and inter-caste married couples.

Eligibility Criteria

  • The Applicant Should Be A Permanent Resident Of Tamilnadu
  • Girls Above The Age Of 18 Can Apply For This Scheme.
  • Widows, Destitute And Orphaned Girls Also Can Apply For This Scheme

Eligibility Criteria for availing assistance under the five Marriage Assistance Schemes

Scheme-I

Education Qualification: The bride should have studied 10th Std pass, If studied in private / Distance Education, the bride should have passed 10th std, Bride should have studied up to V Std in case of Scheduled Tribe.

Cash Assistance: Rs 25,000 paid through ECS.

Scheme-II

Education Qualification: Degree holders from regular colleges, Distance education / Government recognized Open Universities are eligible, Diploma holders should have qualified from the Institution recognized by the Directorate of Technical Education, the Government of Tamil Nadu.

Cash Assistance: Rs 50,000 paid through ECS.

 1. MOOVALUR RAMAMIRTHAM AMMAIYAR NINAIVU MARRIAGE ASSISTANCE SCHEME

To avail benefit under this scheme, the annual income of the family should not exceed `72,000.

2. Dr. DHARMAMBAL AMMAIYAR NINAIVU WIDOW REMARRIAGE ASSISTANCE SCHEME

Under this scheme, financial assistance of Rs 15,000 is given through ECS and Rs 10,000 as National Savings Certificate along with 4 gram 22-carat gold coin for making “Thirumangalyam”. There is no income ceiling and educational qualification prescribed to avail benefit under this scheme. The degree / diploma holders are given Rs 50,000, out of which, Rs 30,000 is given through ECS and Rs 20,000 is given as National Savings Certificate along with 4 gram 22 carat gold coin for making “Thirumangalyam”.

3. E.V.R. MANIAMMAIYAR NINAIVU MARRIAGE ASSISTANCE SCHEME FOR DAUGHTERS OF POOR WIDOWS

To avail benefit under this scheme, the annual income of the family should not exceed `72,000.

4. ANNAI THERESA NINAIVU MARRIAGE ASSISTANCE SCHEME FOR ORPHAN GIRLS

There is no income ceiling for availing benefits under this marriage assistance scheme.

5. Dr. MUTHULAKSHMI REDDY NINAIVU INTER-CASTE MARRIAGE ASSISTANCE SCHEME

Cash assistance of Rs 25,000 is given under this scheme, out of which Rs 15,000 is given through ECS and Rs 10,000 in the form of National Saving Certificate along with 4 gram 22-carat gold coin for making “Thirumangalyam”. The degree/diploma holders receive Rs 50,000 out of which Rs 30,000 is given through ECS and Rs 20,000 as National Saving Certificate along with 4 gram 22-carat gold coin for making “Thirumangalyam”. There is no income ceiling and minimum educational qualification stipulated.

Types of Inter-caste Marriage

Category – I: Either of the spouses of the Inter-caste married couples should be from Scheduled caste or Scheduled Tribe while the other spouse may be from any other Community.

Category – II: Either of the spouses should be from forwarding or another community and the other spouse from BC/MBC.

If You Want To Get The Benefit Of Financial Assistance Provided By The Government For Marriage, Follow The Steps Below To Apply.

  1. To Complete The one of the five Marriage Scheme Application , The Beneficiary Citizen Has To Contact The Nearest Anganwari Center Or District Women And Child Social welfare Office.
  2. Then The Application Form Has To Be Received From The Concerned Office.
  3. Fill In All The Information Requested In The Application Form.
  4. Such As Daughter’s Name, Parents’ Name, Village, District Name, Mobile Number, Bank Details Etc.
  5. After Filling In All The Important Information, Attach All The Requested Copies With The Application Form And Submit The Form To The Concerned Office.
  6. The Application Form Will Be Examined By The Concerned Officers Of The Office.
  7. In This Way, The Poor Families Daughter Will Be Able To Apply For This Marriage Scheme
