About the Intercaste Marriage Yojana Maharashtra
The caste system is a hierarchical system in which castes are placed one above the other on the basis of social status and prestige. With the modernization, prejudices still remain in our country, caste, upper caste, lower caste, etc. are very well understood by the society, still, it is almost seen that if an upper caste man or woman marries a lower caste woman or person he/she is not accepted in the society and sometimes they are beaten, these days we often see this kind of incident on social media.
The Maharashtra Inter Caste Marriage Scheme aims to eradicate untouchability by promoting and encouraging inter-caste marriages between the upper-caste permanent residents of Maharashtra, Hindu Lingayat, Jain, Sikh communities and the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Nomadic Castes, Nomadic Tribes, and Special Backward Category. The scheme provides an incentive of Rs 3 lakh to the married couple, where one of the spouses belongs to SC, ST, VJNT, or SBC. The objective of this scheme is to promote social reform and upliftment of marginalized communities.
